Humqadam-SCRP is helping provide comfortable school environments for the future leaders of district Sialkot in Punjab province. The programme has made a significant contribution to improving the infrastructure of government schools in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) provinces of Pakistan by providing state of the art classroom and toilet facilities.
District Sialkot in Punjab province is well known for its intelligent and philosophical residents, such as Dr. Allama Iqbal, Faiz Ahmed Faiz, Umera Ahmad and many more, who studied in these schools. But today’s students now lose their concentration and energy due to lack of facilities and poor infrastructure. Government Girls High School (GGHS) Glotian Khurd is facing such problems. It has to accommodate about 1040 girls in only 13 classrooms and 12 toilets. Most of the time, their classes are held outside, moving between shady and sunny spots during the summer and winter seasons. In both seasons, this challenges the concentration and energy of the students and teachers alike.
Humqadam-SCRP adopted GGHS Glotian Khurd in May 2018. Construction of 14 new classrooms is now in progress, using the Rat Trap bond construction technique that helps regulate the temperature of classrooms throughout the year. The classrooms will be warmer in winter and cooler in summer, thus enabling the students to better concentrate on their studies.
Humqadam-SCRP is improving government schools in Punjab province and helping foster a safe and healthy learning environment. As of December 2018, Humqadam-SCRP had constructed 1,586 classrooms and 909 toilets in 103 schools in district Sialkot. The programme is continuing its intervention in Sialkot with ongoing construction in another 57 schools to positively impact the district’s educational outcomes.
